Notice of UK Port Congestion Surcharge
One of the major ocean carriers
has announced that from 14th February 2010 a “UK port
congestion surcharge” of US$100 per TEU (twenty foot
equivalent unit) will be charged on all imported containers
arriving from the far east until further notice.
Whilst we intend to lobby against such a surcharge, the
likely hood is that all other major carriers will follow
suit. These surcharges are circumstantial beyond our control
and regret that where such a surcharge has been issued,
will be recovered in our sales invoices.
Thank you for your attention and understanding.
Notice of UK Port Congestion Surcharge.
In accordance with the extremely serious congestion that
exists at UK terminals, China Shipping Container Lines hereby
announce an emergency “UK Port Congestion Surcharge”
of USD 100 per TEU for all cargo arriving from the Far East.
This is applicable on all containers importing to any UK
port with effect 14th February 2010 (based on onboard B/L
date) until further notice.

China
Sees Upturn in Economy
The Hong Kong shippers Council
suggests that “there has been a substantial improvement
in export demand” and this has led to the ocean carriers
operating the Far East Trade lanes to introduce an Emergency
BAF and from 15th August will implement a Peak Season surcharge.
This is on top of the already increasing freight rates.

Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI)
Following an EU legislation
change, a new trader identification system is being introduced
through out the EU on 1st July 2009 called the “Economic
Operator Registration and Identification (EORI). This will
affect economic operators involved with import, export or
transit of 3rd country goods.
The EORI number will be used by an economic operator in
communications with any EU Customs authority whwn an identifier
is required, for example Customs declarations.
As a result the current TURN (Trader Unique Reference Number)
system in the UK will be replaced by EORI. In most cases
it will be the same as your current TURN (VAT Number + 3
digits (usually 000)) and your business will be unaffected.
You may continue to use your current TURN on Customs declarations
up to midnight 30th June 2009 and you may commence using
your EORI number any time after the 1st April 2009 prior
to full implementation of EORI on 1st July 2009.
For further information about EORI please visit HMRC website
www.hmrc.gov.uk,
